Four steps, in order
If you read nothing else on Soanova, read this page. It is the whole path, in sequence, with the guide for each step.
WHERE ARE YOU RIGHT NOW?
Or just start with whichever one is you
You do not have to start at the top. Pick the line that sounds like your life this month and go straight there. The four steps below are still the order things eventually go in, but almost nobody arrives at the beginning.
- I genuinely do not know where my money goes
- I want to stop living payday to payday
- I have no spare income and I still want to save something
- I am one surprise away from broke
- I want to pay off one card and actually finish this time
- I need cash to feel real again
- I have about a hundred dollars and I want to start investing
- I am moving out and I have no idea what it costs
- I just want the printables
I. Know your number
Write down your true monthly take-home pay and your fixed costs. Everything else in personal finance is built on that one subtraction.
II. Build a small cushion
One thousand dollars in a separate high-yield savings account stops most emergencies from becoming debt.
III. Clear the expensive debt
Anything above roughly 8% interest gets attacked before investing. Pick avalanche or snowball and commit.
IV. Start investing, boringly
Capture your 401(k) match, open a Roth IRA, buy one broad index fund, automate, and leave it alone.
